Bite is a locally owned independent grocer and everyday eatery located in Calgary's historic Inglewood. At Bite, we seek to spread our passion for food with the people of Calgary.
The original owners of Bite Groceteria in Inglewood bit off more than they could chew when they moved to the other side of 9th Avenue. The couple had been invited to become an anchor tenant at the Atlantic Avenue Art Block by the owner of the building, Jim Hill. Bite Groceteria opened in the new location on the ground floor of the newly-built building in February 2013.
The space was six times the size of the old Bite and the owners were simply overwhelmed. Suddenly, Jim was both a grocer and a restaurant owner. “Unfortunately it was a little bit too big for them. I eventually had to step in, reluctantly,” Jim says. “I didn’t really plan to be running a grocery store."
What used to be a tiny shop located on Inglewood’s main drag is now a big, bright space in the Atlantic Avenue Art Block. Bite Groceteria carries a mix of local products and European imports. Its butcher counter features fresh meats and cheeses and its bulk spice aisle is tough to beat. If you’d rather have someone else do the cooking, Bite serves up hot meals all day long at its in-house restaurant, or you can grab a quick sandwich or salad to go.
You can get a Bite Groceteria salad to go or enjoy one for lunch in the Atlantic Art Block gourmet grocer’s in-store café – either way, you’re in for a whole lot of flavour. For the sit-down option, build your own at the jam-packed salad bar, where you can top your greens with chicken, blackened salmon or shrimp. Also take home prepared salads such as kale-Caesar and various pasta salads from the deli counter.
