After Calgary’s flood in 2013, many businesses had to renovate water-damaged buildings. James Golden, the owner of Golden City Tattoo Parlor and a tattoo artist for 13 years, took the destruction of his beloved Victoria Park shop as an opportunity to not only rebuild, but also rebrand.
And so it was that his shop was reborn as Black Owl Tattoo in January of 2016. “The owl is representative of a spiritual death, not necessarily of a physical death, but a death and a life. A death and a life means a rebirth," James explains.
