Meet the owner

There’s no such thing as a free lunch, but at The Holy Grill there is definitely a fast lunch. Brothers Nick, Jon and Andrew Yee specialize not only in speedy lunch, but breakfast as well. And service comes with a sincere smile.

“Our concept is we’re religious about food,” says Nick. “Of course, we’re all huge Monty Python fans, too,” he says, referring to the English comedy troupe and stars of Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Opening their first restaurant just west of the intersection of 10th Street and Eighth Avenue Southwest in 2003, Nick and Jon jointly ran The Holy Grill, while younger sibling Andrew joined the business a few years later. They have since launched a second downtown location.

“Our claim to fame is our value,” affirms Nick. “We serve good food fast. Not fast food.” The 40-seat Beltline restaurant's walls feature the work of local artists, and it's all for sale. The Holy Grill also features a hidden gem of an outdoor patio.

A culinary Easter egg hunt: 9 egg-cellent eats in Calgary

Many Calgary eateries have perfected the eggs benedict, but Holy Grill consistently serves up one of the best benny options. The dish features poached eggs and creamy hollandaise atop a soft, fluffy English muffin. Order the classic benny with cappicola ham or get a little adventurous with The South Beach Benedict (a vegetarian-friendly option with tomato and avocado) or the Pacific Benedict (with smoked salmon and spinach). Holy Grill has two locations in Calgary: one located off 10th Avenue and the other located in the downtown core off 5th Avenue.

“Both life and lunch are way too short for fast food,” the Holy Grill brags. The eatery’s two downtown locations have mastered quick lunch service, with quality food. There’s a reason this eatery was featured on Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here! Breakfast is served until 11 am, while lunch is available until 3 pm. Paninis, salads and rave-worthy burgers will fill you up on the fly.

The paninis and burgers at Holy Grill are loaded with fresh toppings. Piled with cheese and mixed veggies that include artichoke hearts, pickled eggplant and grilled zucchini, vegans can sub avocado for cheese on the New Californian panini. For large appetites, additional toppings can be added on for a small fee. Don’t forget to order a side of beet root chips!
