Ian Loch, who heads up the Calgary branch of Loch Gallery along 4 Street SW, says selling art is really about selling passion. “People are passionate about collecting art. You’re selling pure enjoyment to these collectors,” he says.
Loch Gallery, which also has locations in Toronto and Winnipeg, specializes in buying and selling historical works of significance, as well as the work of about 35 established, living, contemporary artists, primarily Canadian.
Saskatchewan-born artist David Thauberger is a perfect example of the artists Loch Gallery represents. “He’s a senior Canadian painter. He’s been named a Member of the Order of Canada. Fifty years from now, his work will probably go up in value,” says Ian, adding David’s works can often be found in museums and corporate collections.
Ian also highlights Ivan Eyre. “He is one of the most important living Canadian artists today. The business we’ve done with Ivan is incredible,” he says.
Terrific gallery. Warm and welcoming.Ian makes you feel at ease and wants you to enjoy your time there. .He feels art is an emotional feeling between the viewer and the art. Nora
Belonging to prominent Canadian art dealer David Loch and his son Ian, the Loch Gallery prides itself on carrying only highly collectible works of art. Although they specialize in historical works by notables such as the Group of Seven, Paul Peel and Jean-Paul Riopelle, they also represent the paintings and sculptures of established contemporary artists like Ivan Eyre and John Hall. An upcoming show will feature for the first time ever the sale and exhibition of Walter J. Phillips’ entire collection of colour woodcut prints.
