Located in the Smuggler's Inn building just south of the intersection of Glenmore Trail and Macleod Trail Southeast, Open Sesame was one of the city's first Asian-fusion restaurants. Its menu features extensive à la carte options, as well as a build-your-own stir-fry bar.

Visiting Open Sesame is a bit like stepping into another time and another country. The dark wood bar and tables contrast with rich, red walls. The decor mixes contemporary stylings with vintage Asian elements such as the large lions that greet patrons at the entrance. The focal point of the room is a large fireplace that gives the room an air of coziness and mystery.

The à la carte menu features Asian dishes from ginger beef to samosas, Steak and ribs are given an Asian treatment with teriyaki and soy flavourings, and fresh BC swordfish is also on offer.

The menu also features a wide variety of dishes including appetizers such as spring rolls, crab-filled wontons, Thai-spiced shrimp and potsticker dumplings. The eatery also serves many sizzling plates that pair salmon, chicken, steak and fish with rice and vegetables. Noodle bowls include pad Thai and Singapore street noodles, while a variety of rice bowls includes a delicious Thai bouillabaisse.

My Favorite Restaurant

I rarely ever post reviews on anything so when I do it means a lot to me. Open Sesame is both my wife's and my favorite reasturant. The food is very good and I would highly recommend the buffet style stirfry as you get exactly what you want for a good price. The atmosphere is casual yet can still be romantic. It has a japanese theme with lots of character and style without seeming at all crowded. Pricing is good and the service is even better. I've been to a lot of restaurants in the calgary area but none are better for a nice casual night out for a couple.

best Stir Fry Around

Every special occasion whether it is just friends and family or just my wife and i we really enjoy Open Sesame, the attmosphere is really nice, if you call and reserve a spot then you might even get there private room for no extra charge. The idea is you pick the noodle and all the toppings and load up your bowl. Drop it off at the kitchen and they'll cook it up for you! Every time we go its amazing!

The first time I went to Open Sesame was with about 20 people from work. The appitizers and food was delicious and the service was great. The second time I went was with my family and none of us enjoyed it. My dad sent back his food because it tasted so aweful and all you could taste in the food was cilantro. I was very dissappointed since the first time I enjoyed it so much. Maybe it was a different or unexperienced cook this time. First visit great, second not so much. p.s walkin's are almost impossible to get a table
