Western wear is ingrained in the culture of the prairies and Riley & McCormick Western Stores has been supporting that culture with quality western clothing for more than a century. Now in the hands of the third generation, the store has been family run since 1901 and continues to be a destination for authentic western gear in Calgary. “We have authority in the marketplace because we’ve been doing this a long time,” says owner Brian Guichon. “We’re the real thing.”
The store has been around longer than the province itself; providing goods to Alberta pioneers in the early part of the 20th century, the military during the two World Wars, and of course, to the iconic Calgary Stampede. “The culture of the West and history is intertwined,” says Brian. “And the fact that we are a family company makes us that much more motivated to continue the legacy.”
Riley & McCormick has served Calgary, since 1901, prior to Alberta officially becoming a province. This western-wear institution has also been a part of Stampede since 1912, providing equipment for animals and riders. After a century-plus in operation, the business remains family owned, with the grandchildren of its founders now running the show. Belts, buckles, boots and hats are the specialty, but the shop’s multiple locations also carry wardrobe staples that include jeans and shirts.
For those of you who want to get your country on (and head out on the town), this is the place. Located on Stephen Avenue Walk and also at the airport, this has been Calgary's original men’s and women’s western store since 1901. Riley & McCormick carries women’s contemporary-western dresses and skirts as well as tops, hats and jewellery. The shop offers excellent pricing for top brands.
Riley & McCormick has been producing western wear since 1901. In addition to carrying western hats in all sizes, including children’s, the shop features a big selection of belts, boots and clothing. Its two Calgary locations — downtown in Scotia Centre and at the Calgary International Airport — are both open seven days a week.
