Meet the owner

Located on Centre Street north, next to the landmark Lina’s Italian Market, is an Italian restaurant that respects the feel and intention of Italian dining traditions. Scopa Neighbourhood Italian is not interested in playing on Italian cliches to sell its food, but instead embraces the heart of the culture. It serves hearty, warm portions of pasta, pizza, salad and rotisserie meats with local  twists.

Sitting in the wood panelled dining room that is both rustically comfortable and elegantly modern, general manager Tim Orimand says Scopa shares the Italian value of dining in a community atmosphere, making it a celebration of food that is simply prepared, but full of flavour. “We really take the philosophies and culture of Italy as our inspiration. In Italy, at a trattoria, a more casual restaurant, often you would know the owner. Staff would recognize you upon coming in and make you feel like part of their family.” That restaurateur’s outlook also extends to knowing suppliers and respecting the seasonal availability of produce to guide what goes on the menu.

Centred in the heart of Tuxedo Park on Centre Street NE, Scopa chef Justin Lall’s Italian-style menu creations blend simplicity with boldness. With its recycled-wood interior, Scopa’s casual atmosphere serves all occasions, including family outings or lunch with the office. Try bruschetta with a hint of sweetness with their pepe rosso selection with golden raisin and almond. For traditionalists, go for the tagliatelle polpette pasta with veal meatball, red wine, tomato and grana padano. For a vegetarian pie, don’t miss the Funghi with roasted mushrooms, cream sauce, white truffle oil and fried rosemary.
