“My husband Marcel and his brother Bruce are fourth generation bakers,” Michelle Hooimeyer says. “Their father Martin bought Grandin Bakery in 1976.”
Martin Hooimeyer had been baking since the age of 13 in his home country of Holland. He learned from his father, grandfather, and eventually in a bakery school. He immigrated to Canada in the 1960s and eventually bought Grandin Bakery.
Today, Michelle, Marcel, Bruce, and his wife Maryke, bake using the traditional methods and recipes passed down through their family. People from all over the Edmonton metro area come to their location in St. Albert to enjoy their fresh-baked treats.
Snuggled in amongst other St. Albert businesses in the busy Inglewood Towne Centre, Grandin Bakery is a go-to spot in the community for great treats (like banana bread) and specialty options, such as nut or dairy-free baking. Having been in business for more than 50 years, this shop has mastered the art of making delicious fresh breads, pastries, cakes and cupcakes, cookies and loads more, too.
Grandin Bakery, located in St. Albert, only sells éclairs on Fridays and Saturdays … but they’re well worth the wait. Using real whipping cream, Grandin Bakery’s éclairs are mouth watering and authentic. Check in for their other weekly specials.
Baking more than 20 types of different breads daily, this is a great place for variety and flavour. Grandin prepares everything you can think of, including cookies, cakes and cupcakes, as well as savoury items, such as meat pies and sausage rolls. They also prepare some great bagels and a low-carb bread. It’s definitely worth stopping by to sample their goods.
