Calorie-burning workouts in North Vancouver

Calorie-burning workouts in North Vancouver

Okay, so the Grouse Grind isn’t technically a gym, but I couldn’t leave out this famed North Van workout destination affectionately known as Mother Nature’s stair-master. Starting at the Grouse Mountain parking lot, you’ll step exactly 2,830 stairs to the summit, where you’ll be rewarded by stunning views, and a treat or drink at the touristy but fun resort café. Here, you can also purchase your ticket on the gondola, which takes you on a much smoother ride all the way back to the parking lot, where you’ll begin your climb again (just kidding!).

Popular among fitness fanatics and tourists alike, the Grouse Grind is a popular hike extends up the face of Grouse Mountain for about three kilometers before reaching the summit café and tourist info center. You’ll climb 2,830 stairs to be rewarded by stunning views of the city and a scenic gondola ride back down. Be warned, the Grind is known (and perhaps feared) as “Mother Nature’s stair master” and requires coordination and cardiovascular endurance. The trail takes about 90 minutes on average, but don’t be surprised if you see locals race up in an effort to beat their best time.

With an array of activities to choose from at the peak, there’s something for everyone. You can choose to skate under the stars in the evening or go on a joyous sleigh ride.
