Meet the owner

A Renaissance man if there ever was one, Patrick Tubajon named his wildly popular restaurant/wine bar/tasting room/charcuterie after a Norwegian roommate he had while living in France in the 1980s. It seems Gudrun was his muse of sorts … she also gave him a better appreciation for “really good” cheese. After studying ballet in Europe, then spending time in New York for a stint as a choreographer, the Steveston High graduate returned to his ‘hood not really knowing what he was going to do next. Lucky for Steveston, Patrick decided to give the village one of its most unique eateries. Gudrun does not resemble your typical wine bar; it’s one that offers a sleek, artsy décor that can be best described as disarmingly eclectic. Its clean lines marry well with the touches of sophistication and whimsy – the art work, the long wooden communal table, the bar carved out to resemble a canoe and the wall of wine bottles – create an atmosphere of fun. Case in point: Patrick has a piano – won during a bet with some rather inebriated fishermen – and above it you’ll find the image of the Virgin Mary!

This food is so fresh and just tastes amazing. I had the Mac and cheese with the side salad and it was incredible. A wonderfully hot cup of coffee with the sticky toffee pudding for dessert finished my meal of perfection. What a cool place. Well done! Cheers :)

Gudrun seems totally out of place in Steveston...

Gudrun seems totally out of place in Steveston. Not only would you not expect this kind of restaurant in this little fishing town, you will also have a hard time to find it. The restaurant is reset from the street and I am sure most people will pass by and miss it. The atmosphere is really cool and laid back, a great location to soak up the cheese and wine atmosphere. The prices are a bit on the high end, however, I think it's worth the money. RECOMMENDED.

Prime time charcuterie plates in Vancouver

Gudrun Tasting Room is a local foodie favourite in Steveston. Their fresh sheet changes nearly every day, but it always includes a very wide selection of cheeses and meats to weave together. Some recent selections: Spanish Garrotxa cheese, Italian Tallegio and house-cured duck pastrami.
