Meet the owner

For 25 years, Uganda natives Amin and Farida Sunderji ran their highly successful furniture store in Yaletown, Richmond and Coquitlam (now called Lane Home Furnishings) before retiring and passing the torch on to their daughter Saleema and her husband. In 2016, when they moved from Burnaby to Steveston to be closer to their grandchildren, the couple yearned for some authentic Indian cuisine. When they couldn’t find a good spot, they opened a restaurant themselves.

“I thought: why can’t Steveston have a casual, but upscale Indian restaurant that serves high quality and delicious food?” says Amin. As luck would have it, the new condo the couple bought was close to a perfect riverfront retail space. Boasting expansive windows, Ember Indian Kitchen found its home along the Fraser River in Steveston, where guests can watch boats go by, while dining on fabulous South Asian fare.

The food is amazing. Love the mix of Indian and African spices. My family and kids love it and we've gone several times and still have not even begun to try all the dishes on the menu. It's a great selection and variety of shared plates as well that are flavourful and not over the top spicy. Lots of healthy grillied choices too. Read the whole menu before you decide!! The service is friendly and the ambiance and location so beautiful on the river in Steveston.

A beautifully appointed restaurant set among calm landscaping: try the veggie samosas:super crispy, bursting with moist delicious veggies (3 for $7) kebabs: tasty beef meatballs with onions, garlic, breadcrumbs and then deep fried crunchy(5 pieces for $7) tender fish pakoras: like super good, lightly battered fish n chips without the chips, 6-7 pieces for $10. Lamb vindaloo: complex and rich flavours tempered by the perfect house made naan, butter chicken to die for! Nani’s chutney is a must!
