For Zach Buckman and Adam Merpaw, the local tuck shop was a big part of their formative years.“We both had fond childhood memories of either cottage country or summer camp,” Zach explains, “and for both of us, a tuck shop was that fun, quirky store that had a bit of everything. It had candy. It had ice cream. It might also have spam on the shelves, but it was always somewhere you wanted to go as a kid.”

So, when the pair decided to open their own restaurant in Vancouver, they elected to pay tribute to that childhood staple, creating a place that indeed offers a bit of everything. Situated just off the Adanac Bikeway, The Tuck Shoppe offers sandwiches, craft beer, soups and salads in a nostalgic, summer-camp-inspired atmosphere.

The tuck shop concept is something that resonates with many of the restaurant's local visitors. “Some people remember them and get it right away, but for some, you have to kind of explain what they were," Adam notes. "It's a very Canadian thing.”
