For Leslie Meldrum, operating a quaint, family-owned restaurant where everyone she knows could sit down for breakfast or lunch was a long-standing dream. This is why she focused on getting hands-on experience in the restaurant business, starting at a young age. “When I was still in high school, I started working at a truck stop diner, which was my first foray into the restaurant scene,” says Leslie. “I loved it so much, I decided to focus on making a name for myself in this business.”
At the young age of 19, while working at a Pizza Pizza, she got an offer she couldn't refuse. “They offered me a franchise, which was an excellent way for me to become familiar with managing a restaurant,” says Leslie. “I said ‘yes’ and worked there for close to five years, then left, looking for other experiences. I worked in many different styles of restaurants for a while, gathering experience and getting familiar with different cuisines. Then, one day in 2003, I stumbled upon Scrambles, here in Ajax, and I loved it right away, so I bought it that year.”
My wife and I were looking for a new breakfast place and heard good things about Scrambles. We went there Sat. about 11:15AM and it was not too busy. We got coffee fairly quick and ordered about 10 minutes later. Then the wait really started. People arrived after us, two tables who were served and got their meals well before us. We did not even get a coffee refill until 11:40. Our orders arrived at 11:50 and the eggs were over cooked. Wait again until new eggs were cooked.
Lousy service we will not return.
I have been coming to this restaurant for almost 10 years now. I love Scrambles! My eyes are always perfect and so is my bacon, they have the best hash browns going. The prices are great and the staff is friendly. When I lived in Toronto I would drive here on Sundays just to east their specialty pancakes! Amazing! Pumpkin and strawberry rhubarb are my favorites! This place is packed on weekends, but I usually don't make it out for breakfast till noon anyways. I have and still will always revoked Scrambles to all.
We went on Sunday. I asked our waitress how many eggs they use in an omlette and she couldn't answer me. I told her that I was on a diet and could only have the maximum of 3 eggs, she said no problem....the omlette was huge..way more than 3 eggs! I asked for just a few homefries....I got more than what my husband got with his order! My husband order steak (done meduim well) and eggs. The steak was RARE, not even medium rare! We had to ask for coffee refills, anywhere else we go for breakfast, they are asking us if we want refills or a warm-up. The dining room was cramped. I did not enjoy my visit at all.

So not too sure how people rate places like this, but though I like it at Scrambles it's certainly nothing really special. If you order breakfast you'll get eggs and toast and the regular food you'd expect to get anywhere else, but no better than you can make at home. It's a nice break to take the kids there in the morning, and the staff are certainily friendly, but I wouldn't give the food more than 3 stars.
Amazing breakfast! don't usually go out for breakfast but when i do its at scrambles :) the waitresses are always cheerful and love to chat and you can always see the chefs smiling and laughing as they are cooking ... quick service and i don't feel rushed ...
I love this place. Leslie and her staff and so warm and caring, the food is good, and I always feel welcome. I visit often and I never feel rushed to finish. The coffee just keeps coming and the desserts are great too. You can even get a half piece of pie just for a taste!

I am in complete disbelief as to the reviews this place has gotten thus far. My experience was far different.
It was awfully noisey and crowded. The waitress had NO idea what she was doing. She was rude and completely inconsiderate - Rolling her eyes when we asked for a high chair and having no knowledge as to what the specials were.
The food was cold and less then what one could make themselves at home.
And if you order a crepe? expect a pancake.

The pancakes are the best that I have tasted and the coffee is great. The service is excellent and the staff friendly and courteous. I would not think of going anywhere else. I have been going every day for the last 7 months since I retired, and every weekend before that. The best in Ajax.
Food is always great, service is always with a smile even when the girls are giving me a hard time. I'm usually in there 2-3 times a week and am very particular of where I eat but at scrambles I know it's always above par. Atmosphere is second to none what with all the comraderie and they even love the Leafs..... :-D
This has to be the best breakfast in town! The homefries are excellent and made with real potatoes. The french toast is great with bananas and the pancakes are fluffy. It is our own little hidden gem, and we are back most every weekend.
A terrific find. The coffee was superb. The owner, Lindsay, came by our table personally to introduce herself and ensure we were enjoying our meals. We were. Terrific breakfast staples, and quaint, customer focused atmosphere. We'll keep returning.

Wonderful local atmosphere - best chili you will find anywhere. Also Leslie (the owner) is ultra adventurous with her home made soups and lunch specials. The staff are all hard working and professional - but Leslie rules. We are now regulars and they even served special coffee at no extra charge leading up to Christmas. Also recommended the Smoked Salmon Eggs Benedict - I tried the "Newfie Steak" ask for it "medium rare" - and kudos to the chef he always makes your eggs exactly how you ask for them - keep Scrambling guys your number 1.
please how to get a refill on the coffee. a greasy spoon that has a hard time getting to refills on the coffee is bad. everything else was above average.
