    Great food, Great service

I was wary to visit this place from the previous reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised! They've done renovations as well as changed their menu. It has been for the better! Our server, George, although new to the restaurant (starting one week prior) was very knowledgeable. I ask as many questions as possible, and I'm glad he could answer most, others he would go to the kitchen to ask any he did not know. One important question was where they source their beef, I was told it is all Ontario beef which pleased me. The Beef Carpaccio was nice, as well as the Beef Wellington. Not the most traditional way to create the dish, but it was still tasty. The pork was nice, although the apple-bacon compote may have been a bit over-the-top on bacon. The Lamb chop was crusted nicely and was done VERY evenly. The dessert was something else. Homemade marshmallows, homemade graham cookies, caramel sauce, and milk chocolate sauce. The marshmallows were on sticks and you have your own campfire that comes along with it. Very novel, very exciting, and the smell of the fire was very close to a campfire. All in all, a good visit.

Service was as Terrible as the Food was Wonderful

Visited this restaurant for lunch for the Taste of Burlington. It was not at all busy and we were seated quickly where we waited and waited and waited. We waited over 30 minutes for wine, we waited for pepper for our mains which never came, we waited between courses, we waited to be asked if we wanted coffee or tea (never asked). Our fixed price lunch took a ridiculous two hours! The food was fantastic but I can't reward service like that with my return business. I won't go back.

One of the best in Burlington

We did 25 restaurants in Burlington since the last 3 years and this one is in our top 5. It tastes really good and that is important. As a starter we shared a beef carpaccio delicious then an Halibut and a sauvage Salmon very good and delicious dessert : creme brulée and a real lemon tart. We asked for a medium-rare Salmon and the Chef did exactly what we expected. The "amuse gueule" and the sorbet were very nice. Service is fast enough. The price was 100$ for 2

    Very disappointing

In the mood for beef, we decided to try this place. Should have been leery of the lack patrons, but it was early for a Friday night. sat up on veranda overlooking Brant St. So nice.. DH ordered a tuna app, but what have should have been barely cooked, only seared, was almost clearly overdone. My salad, a pear and Stilton cheese on mixed green was edible, but greens texture was mushy, not fresh. Our beef arrived. Mine a tenderloin, looking overdone with no pizzazz. Excellent size portion and indeed tender, however flavorless. The veg it was laid upon was not even hot, just warm.DH had prime rib which was the same as my tenderloin. had to add the horseradish to improve. The au jus was a gravy, not a jus. Dessert, I chose was a cheesecake, tasted waxy, perhaps verging on stale. The service was great, thank goodness.Heather was very attentive but did not respond to our laclustre responses when she asked how we enjoyed food. Unfortunately will not be returning or recommending. Such a great location and too bad will not draw in customers. Should have read other reviews first!!

    Disappointed - again

OK, this was our fourth time visiting Prime - third time for dinner. After having a pleasant lunch on Canada Day, we decided to go for a birthday dinner. I had the Las Vegas Prix Fixe dinner which included an amuse-bouche of crostini with brie and a blueberry chutney. It was a nice start to the meal. That was followed by a Pear and Stilton Salad, which was OK but had way too much lettuce, two slices of pear and some cheese. This was followed by a watermelon sorbet, which was refreshing and delicious. An excellent pallet cleanser. The main dish came next. A filet with mixed veggies. Although I asked for my filet to be medium rare, it was pretty much rare and had to be sent back. It was cool and blue in the centre. Not medium rare. (I'm beginning to think I have to order my steak well done in order to get it cooked the way I like it – medium rare. It’s getting increasingly difficult to find a chef who knows how to cook a perfect medium rare steak) Dessert was not my cup of tea - a sweet potato pie with whipped cream. I don't really like sweet potato but it was part of the meal so I had a few bites. It was OK. The birthday boy started with Oysters Rockefeller which were very tasty. Another good start. This was also followed by the sorbet. He had ordered the NY Strip, which we assume, was the Kobe which is what he ordered - Kobe, medium. It was cooked well but we have our doubts it was a true Kobe. The last time we had Kobe at Prime it was tenderloin and it was tender and delicious. You could have cut it with a spoon. This one was not like that at all. It was definitely a Strip - a very large Strip - but still, not as nice as the filet. The dish came with mixed veggies. For $49, he was expecting more. Overall the experience was disappointing. We were there for two hours, which seems like a long time considering there were not many people there. There was no one there when we arrived and only a few more trickled in during our time there. Our final bill was $170, which in my opinion is a bit excessive for what we had. The waitress didn't even offer to take anything off the bill or offer us discount of any kind for bringing me an undercooked steak. Sorry, SB Prime, we tried. We gave you chance after chance but I don't think we'll be back.
