Great service with very nice waitress. My first time experiencing British pub fare so I didn't know what to expect. Nachos were quite good, and although the Steak & Mushroom pie was nothing like I expected (first time trying a non desert pie), it was still quite tasty. Great atmosphere and quick service. Would go back again & would recommend.
The Coachman has a great atmosphere. Food came quickly and quality was good - on par or arguably better than other pubs I've been to recently. The waitress was super nice and service was quick. Overall great little pub, warm atmosphere; will definitely be going back!
After a hard week at work I decided to invite some friends out for a couple of beverages and some food. Where better to go than the coachman. I have been visiting there for a few years now and am in love with the place. We were greeted at the door with the usual polite but casual hostess and a couple of the servers recognized us and said hi before we even got to the table. The service overall was great, friendly and casual but still on point, informative and speedy. The food time and time again is tasty, hot and a real treat. Everyone enjoyed themselves and we will continue to go back and enjoy a relaxing meal, quiet drink or pleasurable night on the patio. If anyone at the coachman reads this, thank you all. You make me feel welcome and I always leave content and happy.
First time dining at the Royal Coachman and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and food. The waitress was very warm and welcoming, and even discussed her views on a few of my McMaster undergraduate classes! Food was exceptionally well cooked and delivered to our table quickly. I have never experienced an atmosphere as warm and welcoming!
Do NOT believe the good reviews. It was our server that ultimately wrecked the entire experience for us. Don't let the cute english accent fool you this lady has clearly no idea what she is doing. Never mind that I am 8 months pregnant but typically most people would expect more than a glass of water offered in a 1 hour and a half wait (by this time my husband was steaming!) Our appetizer arrived and it was the WRONG ONE. When our meals eventually arrived our server had taken it upon herself to "change my order" because she thought I would like it better....being pregnant and all!!! By this point we were so angry we asked for our bill and take-away boxes. She arrived with the bill and all her apoligies and a complimentary appetizer card, which my husband quickly told her to keep seeing that we would NEVER BE COMING BACK!!!! I have never in my life been so angry as to write multiple negative reviews but this place has pushed both my husband and I over the edge.
Honestly, as far as pub fare goes in the area the Royal Coachman is far above the competition. The service is quick, friendly, and management has demonstrated time and time again that they are committed to delivering an exceptionally high quality product. The atmosphere is engaging and friendly, with a strong group of regulars that will testify that the Royal Coachman does it right. The prices are fair, the portions are appropriate if not generous given the price, and as stated before the service is exceptional. The Coachman also offers a wide arrray and range of beverages from the bar which are exceptional. Other bars/restaurants in the area sometimes have a tendency to overcarbonate or water down the beer and pop but the Coachman does it right. I have been a regular for years and have seen the restuarant sold to the current owner, and I can attest that the current group is committed to their clinetele and customers. Some key dates to come in: Monday Fish & Chips 8.99 for an exceptional portion of Norweigan Haddock Tuesday 5.99 Burgers & Trivia @ 830pm Thursday Curry Night with such dishes as Chicken Tandori and Beef Vindaloo Friday - Sunday Prime Rib (Perfectly cooked high quality cut, and generous portion) I will come back and keep coming back. And if you have a problem with the food, or are not satisfied, talk to Ross and I personally guarantee that the situation will be rectified and you will leave satisfied planning your next trip to the Coachman.
This pub really does it right. We love the friendly service and the comfort-food atmosphere. It is just really cozy. The quantities are huge and tasty as can be. If you want a really relaxed evening this coming winter with the snow flying, this is the place to be. B & R
I have eaten here on many occasions and always leave feeling totally satisfied. I took my daughter out for lunch yesterday, I had ordered the luncheon special, Prime Rib Sandwich with a choice of garden salad, soup or fries. The Prime Rib Sandwich was VERY VERY GOOD, you should definitely order it. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water, lol. My daughter had a wrap with soup which she thoroughly enjoyed. The atmosphere feels warm and cozy, service fast and friendly, GREAT pub food. I highly recommend it.
I've been hitting the Royal Coachman every Tuesday evening at 8:30 for Trivia Night since early in February this year. The service is always good as is the food and the atmosphere. I've met some very nice people there and It's becoming the closest thing to "My Pub" that I have ever experienced. Tuesday is also Gourmet Burger Night so you have a choice of a dozen or so variations for only $5.99. Come on out any night, but especially Tuesdays at 8:30. Show us how smart you are and we'll try to keep up!
We were told that the Coacjman was the best pub in Waterdown...maybe if it was the only one would that be true. We have eaten there about 5 times and tonight was the first in almost a year and now the last. We ordered prime rib dinners for us and shepherds pie for the kids. The potatoes weren't cooked on either the pie or the prime rib ere still crunchy raw. And almost half of the overcooked meat was unedible fat. I thought the food was flavourless from the first time I went there and I won't be back.
Went on a warm Friday evening in mid-July and had dinner on the patio. The food was delicious. We enjoyed it so much we have since copied it at home and served it to company with great success (sliced steak served on top of a salad of mixed greens, crumble blue cheese, candied walnuts and honey Dijon salad dressing). Service was efficient and friendly and overall we had a wonderful evening. We go several times a year, but only in the summer when we can sit on the patio.
The Coachman has definitely gone downhill since it was sold. They've fancied up the presentation of their meals, but reduced the portion sizes and increased prices.
Wow the new ownership at the Coachman better re think getting rid of Jackie!! I had to call 2 times to even get a dinner reservation as I was hung up on and then put through to a young lady who said she didn't know how to take a dinner reservation!! This is even before we get there and have longer wait times for average food. The new wait staff can be short with people and are not as friendly as past servers!
This used to be a regular eatery for myself and a group of friends and I had often recommended the Royal Coachman to my friends. Recently they 'upgraded' and our last visit to this place was just short of my most disappointing dining experience ever. The menu was confusing in that it wasn't really clear that any changes we made would incur a surcharge. For instance "Do you want soup or salad?" "oh, I didn't know it came with either" "yes it does" "I'll have Cesar salad then" was followed with a $2.00 surcharge on the bill because "Cesar salad is more expensive". Well, yes, it was in the small print, but since the menu is new and it wasn't clear that salad was served with it, is it not obvious that the part about the extra cost was also missed. I asked to have fries instead of rice, what came was less than a small handful and I had a $1.50 surcharge for the change (with no warning either) The waitress was almost obnoxious, stroppy and very unhelpful. We were not even offered a dessert - and we had to ask to see the dessert menu when she told us she was bringing the bill. One of our group actually wrote to the manager and complained and received a "thank you for your feedback, we'll take your comments into consideration and hope you enjoy your next visit more" Well, there certainly won't be any more visits from us. Very sad to see the end of a formerly very nice place to go.
Always service with a smile. It's especially nice to visit when we've been out of town for awhile. (and we never leave hungry!)
I discovered this place by accident and have been going back ever since. The food is excellent and the portion sizes are huge...Bring your appetite. It is true that Thursday and Friday nights are next to impossible to get in. A "must try" is their new "Flat Chips". They are very thin potato slices deep fried (no batter). Very addictive. The staff are friendly and courteous, and there is free parking on site.
Unbelievable cabbage rolls! Perfectly seasoned and tender smoothered in a wonderfully tomatoey sauce! Best thing to have at the Coachman any Wednesday at lunchtime!
One of our favourite places, staff friendly and food is great with very good servings. Has patio but since located right on Dundas dining outdoors can be noisey. Thursday and Friday nights are very very busy so get a reservation.
