Marina Filippelli is the face behind Angel Boutique situated at 247 Queen Street South in Mississauga’s Streetsville. The store focuses on children’s formal wear for baptisms, first communions and confirmations along with a selection of dance, decor and event keepsakes.
The store was originally run by Marina’s husband Carmen, whose mother ran a children’s clothing store while his father operated a barber shop. It would seem that self-employment was a family affair and influenced Marina in establishing Angel Boutique.
Marina credits hubby, Carmen, with coming up with the Angel Boutique business name. “We’ve always been into angels," she says, recalling that the couple sold numerous white bisque angel figurines when they opened their Erin Mills location. "When we started selling children’s formal wear, it kind of made sense because we’re dressing our customers’ little angels!”
Moving Angel Boutique to Square One fortified their business vision, with Carmen and Marina winning a Tenny Award for sales performance followed by the couple’s garnering the Young Entrepreneurs of Year award from the City of Mississauga in 1999. In 2013, they moved the business to Mississauga's Streetsville neighbourhood.
