What a great place! My girlfriend and I go there for all of our special occasions. We first went there because they mailed her a coupon for $50 off. They also offer a corkage service. $15 everyday except Mondays which is $1! To sum up, we took the coupon for $50 and our own bottle of Josmyer Gurtz ($70 at the LCBO) and sat down for a nice dinner. We told them in advance that we had our own wine and a coupon and the service was just as good if not BETTER than others around us. Pleasant and professional service with a smile. Excellent quality food. The bill came to $40.00 after the coupon. This experience was so good that we had to go back last month for our anniversary. Yup you guessed it, on a Monday with our own bottle of Josmyer and coupon again! Same excellent service and food. This time I had the halibut and she had the Pad Thai. Next month I will be proposing to my girlfriend and we will be going there with another bottle of Josmyer. We will also hold our reception there once we get back to Canada for our friends (we will get married in Barbados with family only then a reception here in Toronto and in Sault Ste. Marie).
Very poor value at this restaurant. had the sea scallops. At a price of $33, I expected the food to fit the price and description as being “jumbo sea scallops”. I received one medium to large sea scallop with four other that were about 1/3 of the size. The scallops were overcooked and burnt on one end for the most part. On top of that, the vegetables (boch choy) were not cleaned as I found dirt and grit near the root. The rest of my family had the steak dinner which was ridiculously overpriced. All in all, the value is very poor at this restaurant. I expect when paying a high price to get high quality food. I did not get this and will not be returning to this restaurant. I will be sure to pass this on to my friends, family and community.
I'm not sure if it was because it was a Sunday afternoon and there was a wedding going on, but the service was just ok. The waiter didn't come by that often to check up on us and when he did we were already finished our food. He didn't ask if I needed a refill on my ginger ale, didn't bring us bread for the table until we asked for it, so we were sitting there waiting for our food with nothing to do but stare at each other. The food was ok. Nothing special that I couldn't have had somewhere else. Portion size was pitiful. I understand the small portion size in an upscale neighbourhood, but seriously, this is a tavern and will always remain a tavern. 4 pieces of stuffed pasta does not count as a plate. Very disappointed after hearing so many great reviews.
My father took me out to this restaurant which him and my mother go to regularly. I tried my first oyster from here which I loved. He enjoyed his pad thai very much and the chicken pommery, which I was hesitant about was amazing. Service was very certeous and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant.
The interior is very nice, nothing upscale, but tasteful. I hope the $3 million did go on kitchen renovation because the food is great (well at least what I ordered). Anyways, the place is nice and cozy, I really did like it.
