This was our second visit to Mye Japanese Restaurant; and the second time I was mildly disappointed. I had high hopes based on other reviews. The verdict we came to tonight was that the sushi is great, but the other items on the menu may leave something to be desired. On our last visit we ordered the Yosenabe which was a novelty (you cook it yourself at the table), but was bland in taste. This time we ordered the chicken teriyaki dinner and were not very impressed with the flavour. It was just okay. The sushi remains the best part of the menu as far as we have seen. All servers are friendly but terribly slow and forgetful. They forget to fill water glasses and to bring in the cheque...in fact, on both visits we finally went up to the cash register to pay - which was not the fine dining experience we were expecting.
When we went to the restaurant, it was empty. There were just couple more people in the restaurant. Nobody greeted us. Just a miserable looking old guy came and asked if we had a reservation. I am from Japan and I have been to so many Sushi restaurants in Japan or in Canada but I have never ever been to a place where people don't greet us...and I remembered that the last time we were at Mye, we didn't get a nice welcome feeling from any of the stuff. That first incident sort of got us down and then there came a waitress taking our orders without a single smile on her face. We were seriously questioning why we came to Mye to eat Sushi when she told us that they don't have any Toro.I have never seen a restaurant where doesn't have Toro. It's not like we went to Mye late at night and they might have sold it out; we went there at 6:00pm. That miserable looking guy wasn't in fact miserable at all as we found out. As soon as regulars arrived at the restaurant, he livened up and smiled all over and joked with them, telling them special menu that they have today and so on. Whereas for us, he never came to our table, in fact neither he or any of the stuff said anything to us as we left the restaurant. I feel like we paid 80 dollers to be treated like a couple of street dogs at Mye and we swore to ourselves that no matter what we do, we will never going to go back to Mye again. I will rather spend our 80 dollers somewhere where we are treated as valued customers and we receive the same quality service as the regulars. I am very disappointed with their service as a Japanese. Japanese are known for a good service but I guess not at Mye. I will definitely tell you not to go there on special occasions because chances are you are going to get treated like dogs and end up feeling miserable and upset like us.
My friend and I meet about once a month to eat sushi and we try different restaurants. We dicided to try Mye as we heard it was the best around as we are from Burlington. We get there and no one greeted us. 5 minutes later we get a hello and they show us to a table. There was maybe 3 other tables and 3 girls working the floor. No reason to make someone wait 5 minutes to greet them. We ordered the Tempura App to start it comes with 3 pcs Shrimp and 4 veggies. Who gives you an odd number of pieces of shrimp....And to top it off it was not good. We order Spicy Octopus which they do not have on the menu but are willing to make it. The lady repeats the order to us, we agree and she leaves. Our food comes and I get Tuna instead of salmon. I nicely tell the lady there has been a mistake. She then goes over gets a piece of paper and says "see i read your order back to you and it says Tuna". Again nicely tell her she is wrong and i ordered salmon. I got a "NO". I do not care what she wrote I ordered salmon. She would not change my order and left me to eat the tuna. At this point I am mad finish eating get our bill and leave. The restaurant inside was nothing special and either was the food or service.
