Behind the rows of impeccably handcrafted European shoes, boots and purses of Max’s Footwear Boutique & Cobbler lies a family history that spans four continents and as many generations.
Max Vadher’s story began in India when his grandfather was born into a shoemaker caste. His grandfather then crossed the ocean as a young man and landed in Nairobi, Kenya, where he carried on his trade by opening his own shoe repair shop. It is here in Kenya that Max and his father were born. Max's father followed in his father's footsteps but eventually left the shoe repair trade to become a financial director. However, he first passed on the knowledge and skills that he had learned from his father to his son Max, who would end up reviving the family tradition on two other continents.
Absolutely fantastic workmanship. Max is a master craftsman, a true cobbler who loves his work and his customers. Thank you for restoring shoes to better than new!
Max has worked on a number of shoes for our family. He recently rebuilt a pair of dress shoes for my husband - they look like new. He even rushed the order when we called and asked him to.
I took my moccasins in to have the sole reattached. I couldn't believe that the owner of the store would allow such terrible work to be returned to a customer.
Brought a $400 pair of leather-soled men's shoes in for repair; the outsole had worn through, the heel-block had seen better days, and the shoes were in cared-for but obviously used condition.
Max replaced the soles and the heel-block for a very fair price; quickly, too!. When he returned my shoes, the sole-flange and heel-block had been re-sealed (the colour was a perfect match to the original) and the textured leather uppers had been re-treated to look brand new.
I have three other pairs of leather-shod dress-shoes; I plan to keep Max very busy looking after them!
