Came here for breakfast a couple of times with my family. The portion sizes are great and really good value. It's my go-to spot when I'm in the area visiting family.
I visited this restaurant May 18 this year with my daughter before shopping. We'd never been there before but we were very impressed. The food was excellent, prepared just as I requested mine in order to adhere to my diet plan, and served quickly. The price was very reasonable and portion size was huge so I had to take half my chicken stir fry home for dinner that evening. I would recommend this place for anyone wishing to impress in-laws, wife, girlfriend, or friend since it is very clean and the service is very welcoming. We will definitely be returning and perhaps bring other friends or family members with us. You can't go wrong with this restaurant and no reservation is needed.
My wife and I stopped into the restaurant Sat. April 13 at 2:20 pm for a late lunch. We were greated (if you can call it that) by a cute little blond girl who informed us rather quickly that the kitchen would be closed in 5 minutes. (she was making that, I really want to go home early face.) We could have stayed but we would have felt we were being rushed. We had been shopping and wanted a little R & R to go with our lunch, not to much to ask. I found it very rude to be greeted like this, as I assumed that our business was paying her wages. I do not know if she was an employee, the daughter of the owner, the girlfriend of the owner, the wife of the owner or the owner. As we left I noticed that the sign on the door said they closed at 3:00 pm. This was 2:20, not 5min to 3:00. This information printed in plain sight was in a direct contradiction as to how we were treated. My wife and I. our daughter and my daughters boyfriend usually go to the starlight at least once a month. on average 3 to 6 tickets a month min. Average $25.00 per ticket, average 4.5 X's 25.00 = $112.5.00 a month X's 12 months is a least $1350.00 in business lost. As there are 100's of restaurants in Peterborough, yours is now off of our list. I hope you can afford the loss of our business as I don't think there will be any changes in the future.
We usually have dinner at this restaurant every Friday night and have been doing so for the past couple of years. One Friday before Christmas in 2012 we stopped by to have dinner. Waitress Rachel greeted us with a huge attitude and clearly seemed angry that we didn't sit where she wanted us to. The restaurant was empty with the exception of two occupied tables. She smart-mouthed me and told me "if you would of only read the sign" and then proceeded to SLAM the menus down on the table in front of my elderly mother. The sign she was referring to was the "please wait to be seated" sign. We didn't think it was a big deal as the restaurant wasn't packed at all. She then went into the kitchen and asked when Simon would be arriving on scene as she was NOT going to serve us. She was telling the kitchen staff that we were extremely rude and she wasn't serving us. Rachel informed us that she was the supervisor and if we wanted to complain, we needed to complain to her. At that point I didn't even know her name as she refused to tell me when I asked her. Needless to say, mother, myself and my daughter left the restaurant and had a nice dinner elsewhere. I did call the restaurant and speak with Simon, who was nice about the whole thing, but continued to defend his nasty waitress. I told Simon I appreciated him looking into this, we love the restaurant and especially his waitress Adrianne. Simon didn't even so much as offer us a free coffee for our embarassing ordeal. Not sure if we'll go back....after all there are other restaurants in Peterborough that are just as good, if not better. Rachel ruined our frequent visits for dinner at the Starlight Dining Lounge. Not sure how she got promoted to supervisor, but apparently she had only been a supervisor for 2 days before our horrible experience.
I'm disappointed in Simon for not handling this issue differently. Thought I'd share this with whoever wants to listen.......afterall...word of mouth is definately the best form of advertising and spreading the word!

P.S. I chose "worst service ever" and "worst atmosphere ever" because I felt it best suited our experience that evening. Usually I like everything about the place.
This is our favourite spot for breakfast and lunch. Service is friendy, portions are large, and the quality is pretty consistent.
The omelettes are great, especially some of the special ones: feta and tomato, broccoli and cheese. The liver is a bargain and is always tender.
Two outstanding choices are the Club sandwich (fresh turkey and lots of it) and the fries!
We are always too full for dessert, but it looks scrumptious.

We were very glad we did! Our food was fantastic and we got to meet Simon the chef.
It seems he bought the place a few years ago and all he needs to do tho make this a 3 or 4 star dining place is to change the decor and get some knowledgeable servers.
This was probably our best dining experience in our home town for years
My sausages were deep-fried! as were my 'home-fries'. Come on, you can do better than that.
My eggs were cooked correctly. The wait staff has been very friendly on each visit, which goes a long way.
I had a great time at this restaurant. I was there with a friend and the lady who served us was amazing. She got things before we asked and the meal was very quick considering how busy they were. We would go back any time.
I cannot believe there is no review for this fabulous restaurant! Busiest on sundays for early breakfast and brunch we have been going to this restaurant for years! it is fantastic!
We went to the Starlight dining room on the recommendation{they had breakfast}from friends.
The waitress was more interested in chatting with the fellows in the kitchen than waiting on customers. We ordered the reuben/fries to share and I ordered the "homemade" soup of the day. The soup was most definately from a can and the only good thing about it was that it came in a small bowl. The reuben was small,cold and dripping with mustard..very little corned beef and sauerkraut. The fries were greasy and when counted numbered under 15 for 2 people. The waitress did bring 15 more fries when asked but insisted that what we had been given was what was served with the order. Big disappointment...huge disappointment!!
