Meet the owner

Long before Michael Flaxman was in the market for a bar, he’d already picked out a name. If he ever owned a pub he knew he’d call it Boo Radley’s, after the reclusive yet heroic character from Harper Lee’s classic novel To Kill A Mockingbird and the film that followed.

“I’m a big fan of the movie, obviously, and the book was a great impact when I was a kid,” says Michael, although the name holds more significance for him than that. “He represents a lot of what we believe in,” he explains, adding that he’s worked with marginalized and misunderstood people over the years. “Boo Radley kind of represents that character.”

In keeping with that character, Michael tries to cultivate an accepting and welcoming atmosphere at Boo Radley’s, the Dupont Street pub he and his wife Shelley Ashbury opened together in 2007. “I would like to think that this place is an expression of how I feel about things,” he notes. “It’s clean, it’s orderly, we’re tolerant, we’re friendly to kids and our food is excellent.”

    Good breakfast / ...

Good breakfast / brunch menu. Rotating menu and always an interesting concoction for the omlette...such as pulled pork or mexican. Nice size portions too.
