At Caffè San Simeon, they don’t just remember a face. They make a coffee that’s got your name written all over it.

“People like that we can make something that’s not necessarily on the menu,” explains Piero Ciampoli, the cuddly and charismatic barista of this bustling Little Italy institution. “This place isn’t Starbucks formal. And I’m sure people keep coming back because of the ambiance.”

The faces may change but the lineups don’t lie. Thirty-six years on, San Simeon continues to figure into the eternal debate of who makes the best coffee in town.

So whether you take your latte old school or your espresso macchiato with a sparkling water on the side, Piero and company want to make sure every customer leaves the café with the same energy they came in with.
