Part club, part bar, this staple on Fourth Avenue has queues lining up the street on most weekends. Nestle into one of the their large booths at a quieter time – between 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm on weekdays – to enjoy $3 craft beer, highballs or house wine. With an extensive menu of pub food offerings, you could find your Happy Hour turning into a few.
Scrubbed wooden tables, dark leather booths, breezeblock walls, aluminum chairs and natural light: Colony is a modern bar that tips its hat to Vancouver’s history. Every weekday from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm, they offer $3 Whistler Lager and Granville Island Pale Ale, $4 for house wine, and regular food specials. It’s now a go-to place for locals – regardless of the time of day – with a buzzing atmosphere that reflects that.
True to New Orleans style, Ouisi’s Happy Hour encourages even the most reclusive of guests to celebrate into the evening with a range of specials on drinks after 9:00 pm, including beer, wine and highballs. On Friday evenings, enjoy One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer – in the style of John-Lee Hooker. While it’s not part of Ouisi’s Happy Hour, for a price of under $15, it could be.
It’s hard not to fall in love with The Fringe. More than a dive bar, with quirky decorations and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s full of regulars – or soon-to-be-regulars. The bar includes an extensive selection of domestic and imported beers, while drink specials abound. Try a pitcher of beer with chips and salsa for just $10, before checking out the bar’s Wall of Shame depicting regulars having the time of their lives.
If Farmer’s Apprentice is the restaurant you take to impress a date, its neighbour and sister restaurant – Grapes and Soda – is where you go on your fourth date, or take a close friend. When summer comes, some Vancouverites see the inside of The Local more than their own living room. Just steps away from the beach, the pub takes its cue from relaxing seaside culture. Daily drink specials include $3 beers and $4 wine, on rotation. On Sundays, The Local becomes an aptly named “recovery room” offering specials on mimosas and Caesars for the hungover crowd.
