Cod Squad Fish & Chips

Excellent fish. Open the batter and it is full of fish. good value and prompt service. Take out was ready in minutes. I am going back to try the oysters. I gave 4 stars only because of the lack of beer on the beverage menu. A very enjoyable meal. good job!

Excellent service...

Excellent service. Staff were friendly and the food came out quick. Food however was average, with the cheese toast being a complete disappointment. Ordered: Jalepeno popcorn shrimp 2 Burgers with fries Cheese toast Other reviews rate the fish and chips as being excellent so might have to give them another try.

Cod Squad Fish & Chips are the Cod God's!!

WOW - We've been waiting for a long time for a really good fish and chipper to come to Nanaimo and the wait is finally over. We've tried all of the other Fish & Chip restaurants in Nanaimo and many throughout Vancouver Island but I believe that we've found our favorite one and lucky for us as we live in Nanaimo. I think that someone must have forgotten their medication or had too much with their Feb 3 post of the "horrible food or service". That post sounded like it was too deliberate and direct to be truthful. This was not the case with us, or any of our friends that frequent the Bowen Rd establishment. The servers were friendly and on top of our orders and the food - yum - delicious. I think the 'proof is in the pudding!' If you don't belive me - go try it out for yourself and I hope that you will agree with me that it's that good.

Good Stuff

Dropped by Cod Squad for lunch. I was a little scared because my experience with the previous tenants had been less than good. You could tell from the minute you walked in the door that this was a new place. It was bright and clean and cheery. The good things didn't stop there, the food was fresh and fast and the portions were huge. I had the one piece Cod & Chips, there is no way I could eat all those fries, but I did try because they were so good. Nice staff too, I'll be back.

Excellent food and service

I have had the opportunity to dine at the Cod Squad on a few occasions and each time I was treated to an excellent meal and top notch service. I decided to try something different each time I went and was pleasantly surprised by the huge portions and great tasting food. I intend to frequent the establishment and pass on how wonderful the food and the service is.

Horrid Customer Service, Revolting Food

Being a big fan of Bonds Fish and Chips, which used to reside in the Cod Aquad location, I was eagerly anticipating the opening of Cod Squad. I was horribly disappointed! I walked in on a Friday night @ 5pm and the place was packed (thought that was a good sign!) Went to the counter to place my take out order, and the lady told me it would be about 25 minutes - perfect I had some running around to do. I came back 25 minutes later and saw about 4 seniors standing at the counter while the employees ran around like crazy, not even acknowledging them. Finally after about 10 minutes of watching this, a waitress asked if the lady at the front was ready to pay. She said "no but I've been waiting 20 minutes to place my order!" I sat back and watched for another THIRTY minutes... (it had now been 40 minutes since my order was to be ready) so I approached the counter and asked how much longer. I was told they hadn't gotten to my order yet and it will still be awhile - meanwhile my son and husband were waiting in the car for me. Finally another 15 minutes later she threw a bag up on the counter without even letting me know my order was ready. Seeing no one claim the bag, I asked if it was mine and she looked at me exasperated and said "um yeah." I got home and opened it up. My $20 3 pc. cod and fries. were 3 maybe 4" x 1" pieces and a small handful of fries. The batter tasted like burnt fried bread and was rubbery in the center and just slid off of the fish and the fries tasted as though they were only blanched (not cooked all the way through). It was the worst fish and chips I have ever eaten and worst customer service. I will never go back there!
