Our Visit to Toula Restaurant was absolutely...

Our Visit to Toula Restaurant was absolutely outstanding. I had arranged in advance a businesss meeting reservation at Toula. Coming up to restaurant was very delightful in their scenic elevator. The hostess greeted us with a warm pleasant smile which made us all feel comfortable upon arrival. I must say that coming from New York, we were all very impressed with the view and the ambiance of the restaurant. If we are talking about Italian food, I strongly believe Toula is at the top of the list in North America. I travel alot across North America for business and dine at many Italaian Restaurants. I haven't come across a restauant like Toula that makes homemade fresh pasta. Hand Made Gnocchi with Provola Cheese and the Crab Ravioli were the two most popular dishes that evening. I personally had the herb crusted Washington rack of Lamb which was grilled perpectly to Medium. The Service was friendly and precise. Our waiter Renato was the highlight of our experience. He is an asset to the establishment for his knowledge on food, wine and customer service is beyond any expectation. I will definately dine at Toula next time i'm in Toronto

We went to this restaurant as we were staying in...

We went to this restaurant as we were staying in the hotel, and it was one of the package deal restaurants with Mirvish. First of all we did not use the package deal, for our free meal, as they had a very limited menu for the free meal, and it had no appeal. Other than the view this restaurant has little going for it. The decorating & atmosphere is poor. The wait staff is atrocious, with all main wait staff being the most snotty east indians. They treat you like you don't belong there. My meal was good (but small portions of course). I had beef tenderloin that was perfectly cooked and very melt in the mouth. This must be their specialty. My husband order seafood linguine. He eats everything, so this is really unusual, but he couldn't hardly eat it, it was soooo bad. The seafood was undercooked, and disgusting (by his words). I have never seen him not eat his food. When we complained about it, they did not offer to fix it. The waiter offered dessert. When we declined he came back a few minutes later and haughtily informed us, he would take off my husbands dinner. I had one glass of wine, hubby had 1 beer, and seafood bisque, which also was the worst he's ever had. Most of the stuff on the menu was seafood, so to do it badly was not a good indication. So with only my dinner and the few other things I mentioned the bill still came to $85.00. By the way the cheapest bottle of wine on the menu was $55.00 (only 2 kinds) up to $150. We did want a bottle of wine, but not at that price. And we are talking kinds that are about $25 other places.

I was searching around Toronto for a really nice...

I was searching around Toronto for a really nice place to take my fiance for dinner and came across Toula, too bad for us. I did read the reviews before going, but thought maybe it's better than what people are saying, turns out people speak the truth. The view from the restaurant was excellent and almost made it worth the trip, almost. We did a 3 course meal and right off the beginning it was a slow start. The appetizers (eggplant and toula salad) did come out quickly so quickly you think they would have been hot, but the plate was hotter then the eggplant. The main course was better (Gnocchi and Veal Chop) overall though it was average and we were not overly impressed. We rounded out the night with dessert (Crème Brulée and Chocolate Parfait) The Crème Brulée and Parfait were quite good and the tea was nice...tetley will never let you down. Throughout the night the service was good although seems like the waiter is always just hovering around. Again the view and atmosphere were also nice, but can't make up that much for the food. I would suggest trying another fine dining spot before heading to Toula's.

Interesting harbour view

The pluses are few: the bocconcini/tomato salad was fresh, delicate and tasty. The butternut squash soup was creamy and nicely seasoned. Beef tenderloin was on the well side of medium-well ordered but lots and tasty. Everything was served at the same time which allowed us to eat together. We weren't hurried so we enjoyed the views. The minuses: The main server was sporadic - definitely not attentive for the prices. Wine prices reduced our consumption to a few overpriced glasses. Sliced veal was overcooked dry and tasteless and bacon strips in between were actually tough. Proscuito over powered the shrimp which was very firm as double cooked or cooked from frozen. The lamb was fatty. The cornish hen was dry, overcooked. Had to ask for water refills. Vegetables were unimaginative and the same for each plate: one baby carrot, one zucchini slice, a few red pepper slices, a few roast potato chunks. Table ambiance was 'family restaurant'.
